about minneapolis photographer joe szurszewski
We are all so thrilled with your work!! You've done amazing photos for us lately. Thank you very much!Sarah McKenzie, EditorThe Southwest JournalYou really nailed the assignment and I appreciate it. You've given me images that'll enable the story about [the] training program to sail, and [my client] looks great as a result. Your work is top drawer. You've captured the essence of the training with flair; the images almost get readers into the classroom. And if they haven't been there, they'll want to be. It raises the bar real nicely for training programs in our industry.John Vastyan, PresidentCommon Ground, Uncommon Communications, LLCI just wanted you to know that I adore your pictures from our Sparkling Sundae event. They are BEAUTIFUL. There are so many in there that we will use endlessly for different things. What I loved about your shooting style was that it was non-intrusive. Half the time, I don’t think our families realized you were there. The result was really intimate pictures, which captured the essence of our Starlight children and this program. I would definitely use your services again for one of our events.Maura Trout, Program CoordinatorStarlight Children's FoundationWe contracted with Joe Szurszewski to take photos at our national conference in Minneapolis. He was wonderful to work with, always showed up on time for each session we needed photographed, and was willing to work beyond the hours we had originally agreed upon at the last minute. His professional demeanor made it seamless for him to work with attendees, board members, and celebrity speakers alike. The quality of his photos was among the best we have seen from the many years we have been photographing our conferences.Sarah Brachman, Communications ManagerIndependent Educational Consultants AssociationWe are more than satisfied with the pictures Joe Szurszewski took at our 2009 annual conference. He produced distinctive individual portraits and sharp, interesting pictures at a variety of events in environments ranging from dark auditoriums to drizzly train platforms. He used light beautifully indoors and outdoors. Joe is diligent, a pleasure to work with, and a complete professional. I recommend him without reservation.Sally Lambertson, Marketing Publications EditorAmerican Planning AssociationJoe took photographs for the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority's (MPHA) Annual Report/18 month calendar. The calendar featured photographs of residents participating in various programs of the MPHA. He took the time to learn about our programs prior to photographing residents and their families. He was very flexible with his time. He interacted very well with the residents and their families. He made them feel comfortable and natural around him so inevitably his photographs were GREAT! MPHA would highly recommend his services.Bob Boyd, Director of Policy & Special InitiativesMinneapolis Public Housing Authority

With experience in photojournalism and newspapers, Joe is comfortable working on tight deadlines. Want images uploaded to your FTP site immediately after, or even during, the shoot? Or need a disc burned on site before the event has finished? No problem, Joe can do it. Whenever possible, he is happy to accept same-day and next-day assignments.
Joe has a unique take on portraiture. He will come into your office or organization and shoot high-quality individual or group portraits against the backdrop of your choice. Images appear on a wide-screen laptop as Joe shoots, allowing you to make adjustments in pose, expression or anything else. This way, you know that you are getting exactly the portrait you want.
One of Joe's strengths is his facility with digital retouching tools. He can do anything from subtly tweaking the colors of an image to full-blown masking and compositing. When you hire Joe to shoot an assignment, he retouches the best images from the shoot and includes these on disc along with all of the unretouched images. This allows you to immediately use the best images in print or on the web, while still having the freedom to use any image from the shoot.
As a long-time Twin Cities resident, Joe knows the area well. If you need suggestions about shooting locations, where to stay, or where to find the best Vietnamese food, he is happy to help. Joe is centrally located in the vibrant and cosmopolitan "chain of lakes" section of Minneapolis, with easy access to St. Paul and all of the suburbs. Joe also shoots frequently in the rest of Minnesota, including Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud and many other towns. He also travels to Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota for assignments.
Joe is a member of the National Press Photographer's Association, the American Society of Media Photographers, and Editorial Photographers and he subscribes to these organizations' code of ethics.
